It features a variable maximum aperture of f/2.8 at the wide end to f/4 at the tele end, providing a balance of brightness and portability. The optical design is composed of 14 elements in 10 groups, including three aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element, engineered to maintain high sharpness and minimize chromatic aberrations across the zoom range. The lens incorporates a 7-blade rounded diaphragm, ensuring smooth out-of-focus rendering. For focusing, it employs a linear motor system, enabling fast and near-silent autofocus operation.
