Oriental lacquer dish with a sage and attendant on promontory or cliff face overlooking the sea with boats in the distance. A large cliff behind them and a pagoda to the rear. Clouds and birds in the sky and flowers on the ground. The whole defined against a black lacquer background with inlaid mother of pearl. The surrounding rim is similarly decorated. The back is designed to accommodate wall mounting. The lacquer is over wood, and this can be seen where it is scratched in places. Unknown date, possibly c1950s tourist ware. Condition: In good condition with some scuffs and scratches to lacquer. The mother of pearl inlay is in remarkably good condition with only one small section missing to the left of the second roof of the pagoda.
