Early 20th-century adjustable wrench issued by Western Union Telegraph Co., marked “W.U. TEL. CO." on one side and “J.H. Williams & Co Warranted Made in U.S.A." on the other. Forged steel head with knurled adjustment and dark wood handle scales. Measures approx. 8¼" long.
Cleaned and presentable, with visible wear from decades of use. The wooden handle scales are loose and need replacement or reinforcement. The side and back of the head shows dings and flattening—likely repurposed as a hammer at some point (not by me!). The jaws open smoothly to 1½ inches and the adjustment mechanism still operates with ease. Despite its age and wear, this wrench remains functional and responsive—ready for display or light use.
Despite the wear, the wrench retains its character and functionality, making it a compelling piece of early American tool history. Ideal for collectors of telegraphy, industrial trades, or vintage lineman gear.
