Action Comics #401 (1971) Superman Captured by Navarro Indians Protesting White Settlers

Reporter Clark Kent is in the middle of covering a Pioneer Week celebration when it is suddenly attacked by Native Americans on motorcycles. Superman tracks down the attackers and discovers them in an underground cave. They are led by a man named Don Hawks who works at the Astro Physical Lab on the coast. Hawks states that he has given up his position at the lab to aid his people against white settlers who have invaded their land. He shows Superman how the Navarros have become poor beggars trying to scrape out a living out of their leftover land. Hawks and his men create a sand drawing depicting the Superman S symbol, and Hawks places a jewel in the middle of it. He then announces that Superman has lost all of his powers and orders his men to seize Superman. To his astonishment, Superman finds he is powerless and is taken prisoner. Hawks then announces that he plans to trade Superman for land.
