Coin Information:
In 1983, the United Kingdom introduced its first £1 coin, replacing the £1 note.
The coin featured the Royal Coat of Arms designed by Eric Sewell on the reverse side.
The obverse side displayed the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Arnold Machin.
The value of £1 in 1983 is equivalent to approximately £3.75 today. The £1 coin from 1983 was taken out of circulation in October 2017. It was replaced by a new 12-sided coin, which now makes it extremely rare in the collectors market.
