Antique Engraving Circa 1800s - Buckingham House, London - Large Frame Antique circa 1800s large engraving of Buckingham House, London. A real statement piece, the frame is 2 foot by 2.4 foot / 70 inches by 60 inches. Buckingham House Print circa 1760 for Stowes Survey This is an engraving of Buckingham House, the building that was later expanded and remodeled to become Buckingham Palace. The engraving depicts the house as it appeared in 1754. It was built for the Duke of Buckingham in 1703 and designed by architect William Winde. King George III acquired the house in 1761 for his wife, Queen Charlotte, and it became known as The Queen's House. The original structure was significantly altered and expanded in the 1820s, with the iconic East Wing (the current public façade) added in 1850. Location: St James's Park, London. Publication: Published according to an Act of Parliament in 1754 for Stow's Survey. The engraving is attributed to Sutton Nicholls (fl. 1690–1740), a British engraver known for maps and topographical prints. The text "Sutton Nicholls sculp." indicates his role as the engraver ("sculpsit" in Latin, meaning "he engraved it"). The print is a collectible item, a historical engraving or etching
