Very rare wooden French Canvas and Wood sun blocking Beach Umbrella from the 1950’s. Wonderful hardly used 1950’s French 8 paneled red, black, turquoise, and purple sunblocking canvas canopy parasol/umbrella. Plain lightly stained wooden handle, mainstay pole, and 1.75” top cap. This parasol is 26” long, 31” width when wide open, 37” thin leather shoulder strap (detachable with brass snap closures at top and bottom). Metal stays. Sturdy metal locking and raising mechanism. Colorful canvas panels are well sewn together with tight, thick thread stitching. Blue, white, and red (French National Colors) label inside saying, “PARAPLUIE DE FRANCE” (which translates from French to English as “French Umbrella”). This is a rare antique from Midcentury Modern and Simple Utilitarian Design. This is a folk art mostly hand made item bought in France just after World War 2 that might have cost a couple of dollars. But now it’s a rare antique representing the easy style of immediate post war leisure.
