A whimsical and scarce Art Deco brooch from Harry Iskin. Unlike the majority of his line of floral costume brooches, this one has a more refined design and it's just in time for spring! It features two birds in flight with a perfect blossom below that's framed by a vining stem. The birds and flower are set with marcasite and the birds have contrasting green rhinestone eyes. The brooch measures 1 1/2" tall and wide. Marked in the reverse with conjoined initials "HI, Sterling" & weighs 10 grams. In excellent condition.
* Born in London, England in 1886. Iskin moved to the U.S. in 1908 at the age of 22. He married in 1911 and in 1917 registered for the draft in WWI, where he listed his occupation as a jewelry engraver. By 1930, his occupation was that of a wholesale jewelry manufacturer, but the exact date of the establishment of Iskin Manufacturing Company seems to be a mystery. His company filed for bankruptcy in 1953 and all of his business holdings were auctioned off in 1954.
