This medal is a reproduction in miniature of an ancient bronze mirror of the 4th century, called “Chocko-mon-kyu”. Originally 28 centimeters in diameter. The design of combined straight lines and arcs, which surround the insignia of the Tokyo Metropolis, was a unique creation of the ancient Japanese. Mirrors in those days were very highly treasured as most sacred and mysterious articles, and the pattern was widely applied in variations to various other objects including weapons and arms.
