I created this whole cloth quilt from 2 double gauze fabrics: stripes on one side; soft pink on the other. In between those layers, I added a layer of 100% cotton batting. I hand quilted it with perle cotton thread, following stripes directionally with my hand stitching & allowed the pattern to dictate my thread color choices. The stitches show up even more vividly on the back solid material. I appliquéd a couple of light wash denim swooping sparrows to each side.
I adore double gauze fabric for softness & its delightfully crinkly texture after washing. It’s perfect for babies. Quilted gauze is perfection! The last 2 pics show the quilt after washing, but I pressed it for the other photos. I prefer this fabric non-ironed, which is super bc who likes to iron anyway?
This is a total of 5 layers of breathable cotton, not overly heavy bc of the lightness of cotton gauze.
Hand quilting takes a ton of time; I also hand bound the quilt (using the pink gauze fabric).
