This is a vinyl LP record of "BGM," the fifth original album released in 1981 by YMO (Yellow Magic Orchestra), the techno-pop group consisting of Haruomi Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi, and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
The jacket design is by Yukimasa Okumura.
A departure from their previous pop style, the album incorporates dark, serious, and avant-garde ambient techno elements, and is considered by fans to be one of their masterpieces. It includes "BALLET," which Akiko Yano cited as her favorite YMO song, "RAP PHENOMENA," one of the earliest rap recordings by a Japanese artist, and "1000 KNIVES," a self-cover of a song from Ryuichi Sakamoto's first album, "Thousand Knives." Both Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi have called this YMO's best album. A pioneering masterpiece of ambient, techno, and electronica.
