↓ Translation of the text on the back cover:
Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1788) began to immerse himself in the Roman landscape, simultaneously creating the first nocturnes and the fantastical "Prisons." His art was richly colored by the contradictions of rich tones, beautifully harmonized with the hues of etching, which he used as almost his sole means of expression. Through these landscapes, Piranesi breathed the powerful myths of antiquity into his prints, depicting majestic and solemn ruins, surrounded by leaves and covered in grass, in contrast to the modern era. His Rome, both decadent and magnificent, emotional and archaeological in aspect, is contained in the two-volume "Views" published in the year of his death. It was a groundbreaking event in 18th-century art, and it still captivates our gaze, possessing the power to imagine and "feel" the splendor of a bygone and eternally lost era.
