Was my great grandmother's and I'm 64yrs. old. These are black glass graduated faceted beads. The strand hangs 18 inches in length. These were a necessary fashion attire for grieving widows and maybe close family members. It was the only jewelery accepted other than a wedding ring. Some mourning jewelery also included woven hair lace pieces made from the deceased or children of, into lockets. Most of this occurred circa the 1700s to 1800s.
