Following Ronnie James Dio's departure, the loss of their lead singer was a blow. However, Iommi pulled off a masterstroke by recruiting Ian Gillan, the singer from their rivals, Deep Purple.
This eccentric combination offered a different flavor from the Ronnie James Dio era, intensifying the dark side reminiscent of their early days, and showcasing fast-paced speed numbers that rivaled Purple. Although it was short-lived as expected, the fusion of Sabbath and Purple, this eccentric combination, was a feat only Ian Gillan could achieve.
Sabbath did not die.
This release includes the unreleased track "The Fallen," "Stonehenge (extended version)," and the highlight: unreleased live recordings from the BBC Friday Rock Show in 1983. They even performed a cover of Deep Purple's classic "Smoke on the Water," a bold move that sparked both praise and criticism. However, it was a live performance that happened because Ian was there. In a way, it's a must-listen take.
As it's a paper sleeve, some deterioration is inevitable, but there are no stains that would compromise the quality, so please rest assured.
This is a valuable, hard-to-find, digitally remastered 2-LP set.
Please note that this is based on a layman's assessment, so those concerned about age-related deterioration should refrain from purchasing. Also, perfectionists are not welcome.
