The legendary Japanese jazz-funk (or so it's presented??) masterpiece "Seaside Highway," which was left unreleased in 1986 and remained hidden for many years, has been unearthed, sparking discussion. Now, the phantom boogie/city pop masterpiece "Aoyama Nights" by City Heights, led by keyboardist Mariko Katsuragi and guitarist/arranger/producer Joe Hasegawa, is miraculously released on vinyl after nearly 40 years. The album features young studio musicians from Akihabara and Kanda, gathered between 1982 and 1986. It was created with the concept of a city pop work inspired by the urban yet lonely expanse of Asia, but it never saw the light of day due to the band's sudden disbandment. This obscure city pop masterpiece blends jazz, funk, and boogie in a unique way, incorporating a local touch of the finest electronic instruments of the time, emerging from the musical melting pot of Tokyo in the early 80s.
