1. Fabric

This denim fabric uses organic cotton. The yarn is spun without removing leaf debris (crushed dried leaves and sepals of the cotton plant, appearing as small brown specks in the fabric) that can mix in during cotton harvesting. It's then carefully woven using a 1960s-era power loom, resulting in a special fabric never before used in Nigel Cabourn products. As you wear and wash it, the starch will come out, and you'll feel the soft, fluffy texture unique to organic cotton. Regular Railman denim is 12.5 ounces, but this product uses 13-ounce fabric, giving it a more powerful silhouette. The green selvedge adds to the special feel.

2. Handle Sewing Machine Embroidery

The Broad Arrow, a familiar symbol for Nigel Cabourn, and "1949," the year Nigel Cabourn was born, are embroidered using a handle sewing machine. This was done by Yuichi Nakajima of "Handler inc.," a workshop in Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture, who has previously handled handle sewing machine embroidery for Nigel Cabourn products and also collaborated with us for our 5th-anniversary event. The handle sewing machine, with its primitive structure conceived about 150 years ago, allows the moving needle and fabric presser foot to move freely 360 degrees, enabling patterns to be embroidered. Machines that still exist and artisans who can operate them are extremely rare, making this a very special technique.
