This catalog was published in conjunction with the 2017 exhibition "Rei Kawakubo Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between" held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This was the first exhibition at the museum for a Japanese designer, and it introduces 40 years of Comme des Garçons' work, which debuted in 1981, with abundant photographs and sketches. Supervised by Andrew Bolton, curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and featuring full-color illustrations of 205 pieces photographed by Nicholas Alan Cope, Kazumi Kurigami, Ari Marcopoulos, and others.
