Great retro agate collectible by California Potteries. Mid Century Modern shape and colors of bright orange and caramel brown. Excellent condition. One tiny flea chip. NO cracks or signs of use Bottom incised with logo & Calif USA R-138 Measures approximately 12" long - 4 1/2" wide and tapers down to 1 1/2" The rage of the 50's! Agateware is pottery (sometimes called "scroddled" ware in the US) decorated with a combination of contrasting colored clays. The name agateware is derived from the agate stone, which when sliced shows multicolored layers. This pottery technique allows for both precise and thought out patterns, and free random effects.
