This is the fourth and final novel in the author's semi-autobiographical Arturo Bandini series, which chronicles the protagonist's struggles as a young writer in Depression-era Los Angeles.
Fante dictated the book to his wife, Joyce, in 1982 due to complications from diabetes that caused blindness and the amputation of both legs.
The original publisher of this edition was Black Sparrow Press.
