This is a beautiful antique bowl in the 'Chang' pattern by Edge, Malkin & Co. of Staffordshire, England. The company was in operation from 1871 to 1903, dating this piece to the late Victorian era.
The bowl features a charming Chinoiserie scene of two figures in a garden, rendered in a black transfer print that has been vividly hand-colored over the glaze. The intricate border and colorful floral motifs are characteristic of the Aesthetic Movement popular at the time. This versatile 6-inch bowl is perfectly sized for use as a dessert bowl, fruit bowl, or sauce dish. The back has the Edge, Malkin & Co. trademark with a greyhound and the 'Chang' pattern name.
Good antique condition for being well over 120 years old. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs. The bowl shows significant, uniform crazing and some light staining/discoloration consistent with its age, which adds to its authentic antique character. The hand-coloring remains bright.
