【Pop-up Book】
"Egyptology: The Search for the Tomb of Osiris"
Dugald Steer / Kodomo Club / Sakuji Yoshimura
Price: ¥3200 + tax
One day in 2005, a letter arrived from America to the editor of Imajinsha. Along with the letter, which requested the publication of a great-aunt's diary, came the diary of Emily Sands, who disappeared in 1926 while traveling in Egypt believing in the existence of the tomb of Osiris. This book is set as a reproduction of that diary.
The story is shrouded in mystery, and the intricate pop-up mechanisms are playful, but the illustrations faithfully recreating the Egyptian ruins are also satisfying.
You can feel as if you've actually gone on a journey through Egypt.
"The pyramids reminded me of everything I was trying to find: dusty tombs, magnificent temples, golden treasures, and otherworldly mummies. But I came to find something more." - Emily Sands, 1926
Luxurious construction with glass beads embedded.
When you open it, the faithfully reproduced world of Egypt is filled with elaborate pop-up mechanisms.
It's a wonderful book that makes you want to give it as a present to someone.
