First American edition, first printing oversized hardcover copy of Gnomes by Wil Huygen and illustrated by Rien Poortvliet (Harry N. Abrams, 1977). A whimsical look at the fantastical creatures of folklore and legend. A fantasy subject told in the manner of humorous anthropological study. Jacket has some wrinkling and blemishes to glossy coating and shelf wear around the edges. Boards are straight and clean with corners and spine ends somewhat bumped. Previous owner’s inscription on first (blank) page with some creasing and waviness near gutter of front free endpaper - possibly from liquid exposure or perhaps rough handling.
